What is the Torn Project?

The Torn Project is a platform to collect and curate experiences, ideas, specialisms and resolutions to help everyone navigate the torn experience.

We want to reach those who are torn – and also supporters of the torn, specialists, practitioners and those who are simply curious.

We want to start a public conversation which sees inner conflict as normal, natural – and necessary to our development as human beings.

Embodied kindness

James is an intuitive coach and group facilitator, grounded in body-based awareness, who helps people to recover their inner authority and to perform skilfully under pressure. He teaches that a mixture of firmness and openness in the body can move people from reactive to responsive, and suggests that any situation can be improved by forgiving oneself for getting stuck there in the first place!

A certified Co-Active Coach, Caitlin is passionate about Internal Family Systems approaches and the transformative power of outdoor coaching.

The story so far

The 2020 global pandemic thrust the entire  population into inner conflict. Stay in or go out? Follow the rules or break them? Be kind or grab what we can? Stay optimistic or lose all hope?

As friends and coaching colleagues, we sought support for ourselves and our clients, but found limited available resources and knowledge – along with a societal view that 'being torn' is slightly shameful.

We emerged from lockdown wanting to change things, began talking to people about their experiences, and then collected and curated ideas, insights and ways forward. The Torn Project was born.

A hand-typed poem starting "I am torn..."
As we developed The Torn Project's identity, we had the brilliant stroke of luck in meeting Luke Davis, poet for hire, who wrote us this poem.

We have already… Developed a 1500+ concept database. Done in-depth research interviews with over 120 people. Gathered a team of actors, photographers and directors to document inner conflict in image and video. Taught courses on inner conflict at professional and university level.

In December 2024 we began posting on Instagram. In September 2025 we begin our first podcast season of real life stories, dramatisations, interviews and discussions. We aim to start a programme of online and offline courses during 2026.
